Our Refund and Return Policy

At Moonlight Birmans, we’re committed to making responsible, lasting placements. We carefully match each kitten with the right family to ensure a lifetime of happiness together. However, we understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, and we want you to feel confident in your decision to adopt from us.

Deposit and Reservation Policy

When you choose to reserve a kitten from Moonlight Birmans, we require a non-refundable deposit. This deposit holds your selected kitten and removes them from availability to other families.

Non-Refundable Deposit: The reservation deposit is non-refundable once paid. This deposit compensates us for turning away other potential families and dedicating that kitten to you. The deposit amount will be applied toward your kitten’s total purchase price.

Exceptions: If we cannot fulfill our commitment (for example, if a kitten becomes unavailable due to unforeseen health issues), your deposit will be fully refunded or applied to another kitten from a current or future litter, at your preference.

Pre-Adoption Cancellations

If you need to cancel your reservation before taking your kitten home:

More Than 2 Weeks Before Pickup: You may transfer your deposit to another available kitten from our current or upcoming litters. The deposit remains non-refundable but can be redirected.

Less Than 2 Weeks Before Pickup: The deposit is forfeited, and no transfer is available. At this stage, we’ve prepared extensively for your kitten’s departure and likely declined other interested families.

After Final Payment: Once you’ve made final payment but before pickup, cancellation results in forfeiture of your deposit. The remaining balance will be refunded minus a 25% rehoming fee to cover our costs in finding a new suitable home.

Post-Adoption Returns

We want every adoption to be successful, but we recognize that truly unexpected circumstances can occur.

Within 7 Days of Adoption: If you discover within the first week that your family and your new kitten are genuinely not compatible, please contact us immediately. We will accept the kitten back and provide a 50% refund of the purchase price (minus deposit). The kitten must be returned in good health with all provided veterinary records.

Important Conditions:

  • You must have contacted us about concerns and attempted to work through adjustment issues
  • The kitten must be returned with all health records and in the same condition as adopted
  • Normal adjustment behaviors (hiding, reduced appetite for 1-2 days, shyness) don’t qualify for return
  • We’re available to help you through the typical adjustment period before considering return

After 7 Days: We do not offer refunds after the first week. However, we never want one of our cats to end up in a shelter or unsuitable home. If you can no longer care for your Birman at any point in their life, contact us first. We will always take back or help rehome any cat we’ve bred, regardless of age or circumstances, though no refund will be provided.

Health-Related Returns

If your veterinarian discovers a serious pre-existing health condition during your initial 72-hour examination (as outlined in our Health Guarantee):

  • You may return the kitten for a full refund, including deposit
  • You may keep the kitten and receive partial compensation for veterinary treatment
  • You may exchange the kitten for another available kitten

This does not apply to minor treatable conditions or normal kitten behaviors.

Our Commitment to Every Cat

We care deeply about every Birman we bring into the world. Our return policy exists not to make returns difficult, but to ensure thoughtful commitments and to protect our kittens. We invest tremendous time, love, and resources into each kitten and want to ensure they find permanent, loving homes.

Before any adoption is finalized, we have extensive conversations with potential families to ensure compatibility. We encourage questions, video calls, and multiple communications to help you make an informed decision.
